Like a pair of torn and faded designer jeans, The Galleon Cafe’s artful dishevelment is a perfect fit in this bo-ho part of Carlisle Street. Booth seats, laminate tables, bright artwork and a hippie-ish open kitchen are the ideal backdrop for the café’s eclectic clientele. The menu mixes soul food with sparky daily specials and some kid-friendly serves. Breakfast (served until 3.45pm) might be porridge and stewed fruit, lunch could be a juicy bratwurst and sauerkraut, while dinner gets more classy – think grilled salmon with fennel and lemon. Desserts take you back to nana’s kitchen with fruit crumble, banana split and rice pudding.
