Scottish Style
Say goodbye to chintz and tartan at this boutique bolt-hole.
There is a reason the stars of British soccer choose to stay at Rick’s in Edinburgh, and it has little to do with the chic women perched prettily at the stylish bar.
Much more than a restaurant but actively rejecting the tag of ‘hotel’, Rick’s fits within an exclusive travel niche; the boutique complex boasts just 10 sleekly designed rooms with luxe creature comforts, like the cozy lambs wool rugs, 100-count Egyptian cotton sheets and there-to-keep bath robes. Fancy the artworks hanging on the wall? They’re yours to purchase should the whim strike, with new artists exhibited on a bi-monthly basis.
The abundance of Molton Brown beauty products is also a nice touch (Rick’s guests receive special treatment at the luxury label’s nearby store), so too an accommodating staff with a reputation for discretion. Of course there are all the usual gizmos and gadgets required for modern-day executive travel, including wireless Internet access throughout the stylish complex.
Its location just off George Street in chichi New Town puts guests in the middle of the Scottish capital’s vibrant shopping and restaurant district, away from the chintzy stores and crowded footpaths of Old Town. And if you can drag yourself from the cool, linear design of Rick’s restaurant, don’t leave town without a visit to nearby Centotre, a lively Italian restaurant and wine bar created by one of Edinburgh’s most well respected restaurateurs.
