Stylish Homecoming

French designer Catherine Malandrino has thrilled her homegrown fan-base with the opening of her first French boutique in the heart of St Germain

It isn’t often a Paris fashionista has New York-envy. Except maybe in the case of French-born, New York-based designer, Catherine Malandrino. After three NY store openings and still no Paris base, local fans of her elegant and detailed designs were left feeling, well, a little unloved. But no longer. Malandrino has put out her gold-plated shingle on rue des Saints-Pères, sharing the Saint Germain side-street with fellow luxe labels Prada, YSL and Etro. Glam and glittery, shiny and pretty, the two-storey boutique is as seductive as her textured and flirty summer collection. It’s a heady combination – and may help explain how I walked out of there a good deal poorer. (But feeling much cuter.) The icing on the cake? Malandrino’s totally fab shoes. And Guillaume. A high-end boutique manager of such easy-going wit and charm is truly a rare find.
