16th Arrondissement Chic

Settle in among the young and precocious at Scossa, a buzzy brasserie in the heart of Paris’ affluent western quarter.

There isn’t a guidebook writer around who hasn’t documented the recent explosion of kitsch bars and hip night spots in Paris’ boho Oberkampf district. But for the young, beautiful and precocious, the fashion bars and restaurants of the chi chi western arrondissements continue to hold their appeal. Like Scossa, in the heart of the 16th. Ground zero for le seizieme social set, the terrace (covered and heated in winter) offers up a chic vibe and prime people-watching on the edge of Place Victor Hugo. Between the exquisitely groomed and nubile young lasses and their chiselled male counterparts, happy hour bares a startling resemblance to the pages of a Gucci catalogue. It’s a veritable voyeur’s paradise. Needless to say this all comes at price. A bottle of Coke is a somewhat staggering 8 euros (little wonder locals favour the thè a la menthe frais). Food is surprisingly good for a Paris fashion brasserie, toeing the mod-French line with trendy takes on cultural classics. But, let’s face it, with eye candy like this it’s not the grub stealing the limelight.
